Advertising and Advertisements

Advertisement is a promotional tool. It is used to promote ideas, goods and services.
Advertising and Advertisements

Advertisement is a promotional tool. It is used to promote ideas, goods and services. Its purpose is to appeal to a particular audience called customer by the advertiser.

An advertisement is usually done through various media such as magazines, journals, newspapers, television, radio, hoardings, posters, banners and Internet (top in the list). The technique of advertisement is chosen according to the need of the people, suitable for the product and within the limitation of the budget. The purpose is to reach the public as fast as possible and communicate information about the product so that the consumer may be persuaded to buy that particular object, good service or product.

Advertisement can reach more people, a bigger audience, a wider market, living in different parts of the world. An advertisement is possible only through a selected media. In the process of selecting an appropriate media, certain factors have to be considered such as :

  • The size of the audience
  • The reach of the media
  • The target market for a product
  • The cost of advertisement
  • The volume of sales

Advantages of Advertisement

Advertisement influences our lifestyle. We change our taste, style and preferences after seeing an advertisement. Most of the things we buy, eat and drink are decided after seeing the advertisement. Advertisement helps in promoting the qualities of a product. It also tries to help customers to understand the differentiation of the product which helps in giving recognition for a product. Advertisement appeals to our emotions. It inspires and influences us in many ways.

How are advertisements created

Advertisement copies are created by agencies. The agency consists of people with creative ideas and other effective methods to launch the new products. This team first develops a propaganda for a new product. They give a name to the product, then create visuals to bring out the features of the product after which they choose the target people. The product is tested on them followed by a feed back. Once they find the test successful then they choose the media through which advertisement is launched.

Advertisements also fail how and why

Advertisement is the easiest and most economical means of tapping the wide market, but all advertisements may not be successful. It may fail because of the following reasons:

  • Lack of consistent advertising policy
  • Making exaggerated claims which make people lose confidence
  • Unimpressive appeals
  • Wrong layout of advertisement designs
  • Selecting wrong medium
  • It indirectly increases the price of the product by adding the cost of advertisement.

Advantages of Advertising

  • It helps the producer in promoting sales.
  • The social advertisements bring awareness e.g., about global warming.
  • The social advertisements try to bring equality in society e.g., promoting girl education.

Disadvantages of Advertising

  • Some advertisements mislead the consumers by exaggerating the qualities of a product.
  • Some advertisements emotionally blackmail the target audience specially mothers, wives etc.
  • The advertising is basically to sell branded products, the small shopkeepers suffer.
  • The people from weaker sections of a society feel neglected because the advertisements show the lifestyle of the rich and affluent in the society.

To conclude, advertising can give beneficial results, it can also impact individuals and the society negatively. So, the government should ban obscene advertisements.

10 Tips for Image Optimization

Did you know that 1 second delay in page loading time costs Amazon $1.7 billion in revenue?
There are many ways, you can optimize your images for search engines.
Image optimization is one of the most neglected areas when it comes to driving search traffic and increasing conversion rates. If you want to speed up your website/blog, images are the first place to start. Image optimization brings a new source of traffic from image searches. This service allows users to perform a search just for images and can lead more visitors to your site/blog.

There are many ways, you can optimize your images for search engines.

1. Use the right image

Can't use Google Images to pick any image and add it in your article because those images might be protected be copyright and you might run into some big trouble for using such images. So, you can use the websites, like FreeDigitalPhotos, ShutterStock, Pixabay that provides images for free. You can also get high-quality and professional images by paying a few bucks.

2. Choose the right file format

There are three major image formats to choose from - .jpeg, .png and .gif.

  • JPEG - Most commonly used image format. Supported everywhere and keeps file size small. It is best for digital photography.
  • PNG - It is a lossless format. If you edit the image multiple times or resize it and compress it, it won't lose any data or degrade in quality.
  • GIF - It is a bitmap image format used for simple art and animations. It supports small size images.

3. Reduce image file size

Image file size is a huge factor that affects your website / blog load time. The bigger they are, the more likely they will slow down your site/blog. You should be careful not to reduce the size too much, as this will affect quality.

4. Set up the ALT tag

Alt tags represent information about a picture displayed in the event that the image is not loaded successfully. Google considers this an important ranking factor. Don't forget to fill out the alt tag for all images on your site. It will take you some time, but the benefits are worth it.

5. Use captions in the Image

The captions are available to you so that you can tell your readers, what you are trying to say by using the image. Captions are the description that appears right below the images in your site/blog. Captions will reduce the bounce rate, which will improve your SEO score and increase the chances of the image getting a higher position in the search engine results.

6. Use surrounding text

Make sure the text surrounding the images is relevant. When Google crawls your images, it also checks the surrounding content. After the Hummingbird update, Google is paying much more attention to semantics and context. Now search engines much better understand the meaning of words and can make connections between them.

7. Use Image sitemaps

If you run a site/blog on topics that have nothing to do with images, then you can avoid the image sitemaps. But if you run a photography blog or a tech blog that requires a lot of images, then it is a good idea to create an image sitemap to make sure the images are indexed properly in the search engines.

8. Separate your thumbnails from main pictures

Thumbnails should be as small as possible to minimize page load time, means you need to resize them and use the appropriate level of compression. You can do this by a photo editing powerhouse like Photoshop.

9. Don't rely on third party image hosting

It is always a good idea to use your own servers to host your images. Image hosting services like Postimage allow you to upload images onto their servers, which is great for saving some space, but your images may become deleted or blocked when the hosting services are over-whelmed with high amounts of traffic.

10. Improve image loading speed for responsive theme

Your website/blog is often not a great fit for the smartphone's small screen. You need to develop a responsive or a mobile site/blog. When dealing with a responsive design, host the lowest file size image in the <img> tag and then change it via the CSS for non-mobile users.

Implement them!

Take your headphones: Facebook is testing videos with auto-play sound

Facebook video autoplay, Australia
I had an image in my mind when Facebook was going to put autoplay video ads onto the News Feed, Videos starting up, making a noise, but Facebook automatically muted those videos. So, they wouldn't make a sound unless you wanted them to. I'm sure we all like this option because mostly we use Facebook on the bus, metro, train or at workplace.
Facebook autoplay with sound

But Facebook is currently testing out autoplay video that will automatically play with sound, according to a report out from Mashable on Monday. The tests are being run only in Australia on both ads and Facebook live videos, on mobile devices. From today some Australians may notice autoplay on all types of video, including ads and Facebook Live, acting differently on their mobile app

Facebook confirmed about this test to Mashable in a statement. "We're running a small test in News Feed where people can choose whether they want to watch videos with sound on from the start, who do not want sound to play, they can switch it off in settings or directly on the video itself. This is one of several tests we're running as we work to improve the video experience for people on Facebook."

15 Reasons to use Google Analytics

Are you looking for a tool to analyze your website/blog traffic? Do you know how much traffic your site is getting? Are you getting more out of your website/blog by optimizing it effectively for search engines?

If you have a website or blog and want free tools for search engine optimization (SEO).
OR
If you have not and want to know about a free service of Google for use in your future BLOG.
(Read my post to create a free Blog.)
OR
You just want to gain your knowledge from GainByBlog.
Then you are reading the right post.

Why do so many people around the globe use Google Analytics when there are many more tools available?
Let's take a look -

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free Web Analytics service that provides statistics and basic analytical tools for search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing purposes. The service is available to anyone with a Google account. The tool of Google Analytics allows you to collect information on where customers/visitors are accessing your website, from and how they interact with each page, in real time. You can sign up for a account to monitor your progress and ratings.

I started working with Google Analytics in the early days. Not only do I use Google Analytics on personal websites/Blogs, but also in my daily job to measure, analyze and optimize client sites.

Google Analytics.

Here are some Reasons Why to use Google Analytics :

1. Free to use

We have all heard the saying "You don't get anything for nothing", but you don't have to pay any fees for using Google Analytics service.

2. Easy to use

A basic implementation is easy compared to tool from many others. Google analytics provides you critical Information, numbers and stats needed for you to maximize your website's performance. However, to get fully benefit from all the features of Google Analytics, deeper knowledge is required.

3. Easy to Customize

You can customize the information for your reports. Using an easy drag 'n' drop. You can set up the reports how you want to receive them for easier analyzing. Add many different dimensions and metrics in one report.

4. Internal site search

Know what people on your website are searching for. Make effective changes to your navigation and product offers according to the requirement.

5. Unique visitors

Know the unique visitors of your website. Unique visitors are the number of new people who visited your website in a given time period chosen by you. For example if this number is 2,000 that means 2,000 different people visits your site at least once in the time period you specified. If this number is low your website may not be ranking high in search engines.

6. Mobile traffic

Google Analytics will also allow you to monitor your mobile of tablet traffic. Find out how much traffic you are getting from mobiles and tablets and whether this visitors segment is converting or not.

7. Optimize your website keywords

What keywords are driving traffic? Keywords are phrases that your site visitors searched to arrive to your website. I recommend that these keywords be optimized in your search engine optimization (SEO) strategy.

8. Traffic source

A traffic source determines where the traffic to your website is coming from. Traffic can come from search engines, other websites, and referrals, paid ads or direct traffic. This metric can help determine areas of your website that are most successful and which are not, and help you make decisions on where to focus your advertising and site-optimization efforts.

9. Real time traffic

See who is on your website right now. See where they live, how they found your site and what they are doing on your site at this moment.

10. Bounce rate

Your website's bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who enters and exists your website and leaves after viewing only one page, rather than continuing to read on to other pages within your site. A high bounce rate may indicate that your website was not what the visitor was looking for. A low bounce rate is associated with the percentage of satisfied visitors.

11. Preferred Pages

You will be able to know which the popular pages in your website/Blog are. Find out which pages are visited more often and how long people stay at these pages.

12. Social reports

An advance feature Social reports help you track the impact of social media on your website traffic. You can easily track down the sharing of your content on various social sites as well as on your own website by others.

13. Get Help

Google Analytics has an enormous network of qualified consultants around the globe. So in case you need help it is easy to find someone who can assist you.

14. Export to Excel

You can export the data to excel from the data export function.

15. Track your Website/Blog Campaigns

You can easily track any campaign that is driving traffic to your Website/Blog.

The above are just a small list of reasons to use Google Analytics. This is a valuable tool which can help you in all aspects of your website and your online business.

I feel it is a very powerful tool to use. If you like this post, don't forget to share it on Facebook and Twitter, also I am waiting for your comments. How did you like this post?
