The Constitution of India is the supreme law of India. It was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949, and came into effect on 26th January 1950. In India, there is a bicameral federal parliament: the Rajya Sabha or council of states (upper house) and the Lok Sabha or house of the people (lower house).
Politics in India take place within the framework of its constitution, as India is federal parliamentary democratic republic, in which the President of India is the head of state and the Prime Minister of India is the head of the central government.
